Tanks that won't run in the winter, desert tanks that caked mud will disable, and tanks with thin armor (50mm as opposed to slanted 55 (100 mm effective), or 80 mm) and low velocity guns are better than walking but not as good as a horse. I'm a millennial and I know dropping the bombs saved more lives overall than it took by ending the war and I know both bombs were necessary. It sucks that it had to be done and that innocent people had to suffer but it's good that we had some one willing to do it. The Japanese understand it was war and they really can't say shit after Nanjing anyway.

I am not surprised.

My father was in the Plillipines in 1945, training as part of the invasion force for the Japanese Mainland Islands. He had already been in one battle, as part of the secondary forces in The Marshal Islands.

I don't know if the horrendous death toll of Americans projected by the War Department would have come to fruition. All we had to go on was the resolve showed by The Japanese as our forces advanced across the Pacific.

I do know this, I was conceived in 1947. Would my Dad have survived? I don't know. He was sure glad that we used The Bomb.
