Outbreak in dallas

Your chronology is wrong. He developed a fever AFTER he went bowling, not before. He went bowling Wednesday night. H had the fever at 11 a.m. Thursday. Yes, he felt a bit under the weather Thursday evening, but had no fever then, or at any time on Wednesday. I strongly suspect that there will be no other cases in NY, unless they are hospital acquired infections. And frankly, I doubt NYC will have any of those because 1) they have benefited from Dallas' experience, and 2) it's NY, so they have prepared much more extensively and have much more experience treating diseases that are more infectious that Ebola. Looks like the lawyers in this thread were wrong; Presbyterian has decided to settle rather than face lawsuits.

And the Duncan family is looking for an even bigger payout....book and hollywood movie deal to follow!

A fucking immigrant carrying a highly infectious disease, lies to get here...Dallas county taxpayers foot the bill for the ebola aftermath he caused, presbyterian hospital incurs the cost of treatments and the relatives of this fuckhead cash out.

Welcome to America...ain't it great !

Now send the family the medical bills for his treatment and all the costs incurred by Dallas County.

And they were probably advised by attorneys to take what was being offered, up to a point. Wouldn't everyone just wish to get this situation done and over with?

The book and movie deal? What would THAT be about? Seriously doubt that it's that interesting, or is it?

Such a weird situation. And what a "15 minutes of fame" to have happen.

I heard today the maximum the family could've got was $250K. But they settled. I wonder how much?

I believe that it is a lump sum total of $250k liability. That is cap for Texas mal practice. My opinion is that it is not deserved as he lied to hospital when he first went to ER. Oh well, that is lawyers for you!!

My understanding is that he did not inform the hospital that he had been in Africa and/or that he was in contact with someone with Ebola while there.

Then he did not inform THD's ER of his travels from Liberia until his second visit, 3 days later. By then he already had a fever and vomiting and diarrhea and was extremely contagious.

Basically a criminal's family sued a major hospital system in Dallas. He infected two good nurses, caused a month of public panic, caused millions of dollars of decontamination costs among multiple companies including the airline carrier Amber Vinson used and Carnival. An entire cruise vacation was ruined because of a lab worker that only carried Duncan's blood that was contained even via isolation precautions. Tens of thousands of lives were disrupted for weeks at a time and miliions upon millions of dollars spent.
If anything Amber Vinson and Nina Pham should have sued Texas Health Resources for inadequate protection from Ebola and counter-sued the Duncan family for almost losing their lives.

And naturally and ultimately Prezzy Obola gets his narcissistic photo-op with Nina Pham like he always does. The brave healthcare workers at THD and in Bethesda MD deserve kudos for caring for Nina.

What's wrong with this picture?

Mr. Duncan violates the laws of Liberia by lying to board a flight to the US.*
Mr. Duncan is a NOT A US CITIZEN.
Mr. Duncan has NO HEALTH INSURANCE....
Mr. Duncan gets an *ESTIMATED* $500,000 TO $1,000,000 MEDICAL CARE FOR FREE.
Mr. Duncan dies from Ebola.
Mr. Duncan's family gets an undisclosed settlement from the hospital.

*Estimated because the amount, which may be higher, is not readily disclosed.

After TPH sent him home, Mr. Duncan's fiancé got on the phone to the CDC in Atlanta to find out what to do.

When he went back the second time, he was kept in the emergency room for two days before they admitted him to their ICU. In the end, THP withheld proper medical care for 5-6 days and insured his death.

It will be interesting to see what happens to Nina Pham and Amber Vinson. The hospital sent them in to take care of him without the proper hazmat suits. So it could be pretty interesting to see how the hospital prevents that lawsuit.

It is pretty easy to vilify Mr. Duncan (RIP). He is dead and cant defend himself. Thank goodness there is a lot of good people at that hospital have defended him and his actions.
