I'm not sure if that's better or worse - guess it depends who's in the White House at the time.

I know you guys hate big federal government, but why don't we have professional full-time election officials? Full-timers would at least be able to count and have standard sets of rules. You'd just have to make them stick to their rules, that's all. Good point about Bush era political firings, too. I'm sure those Republicans would have fired unfriendly election officials just like they fired U.S. Attorneys.
