I know you guys hate big federal government, but why don't we have professional full-time election officials? You wouldn't let local part-timers with political agendas do other government jobs, would ya? Ten years later and there hasn't been election reform at all... Originally Posted by Longermonger
The problem with your point is that you transfer the responsibilities from local part-timers with political agendas to national full-timers with political agendas. I'm not sure if that's better or worse - guess it depends who's in the White House at the time.

Full-timers would at least be able to count and have standard sets of rules. You'd just have to make them stick to their rules, that's all. Good point about Bush era political firings, too. I'm sure those Republicans would have fired unfriendly election officials just like they fired U.S. Attorneys.
Federal election officials...presumes elections are, well, federal. Are they?
