I'm not charging these folks anything because it's a property damage only case. I'm just helping them because they're getting dicked around.

And to my knowledge, you can't deduct pro bono services on a businesses tax returns. Perhaps COG can correct me on that. But the lawyer (and legal assistant) that is working on the case is on salary. She is paid by the month and gets bonuses when the firm does well. Her salary is deductible whether she works on pro bono cases, million dollar law suits, or surf for porn on the internet all day. How would it "be a business loss on [my] taxes"? Inquiring minds want to know. Originally Posted by TexTushHog

Plus, you can always be duplicitous. You can connive with your client and claim it’s pro bono, but then deduct your uncollected fees and expenses as a worthless debt. But of course, you would never do that. Nah, lawyers are known and respected for their high morale standards. BTW, how's this hooker board thing working for ya?

I suppose someone has no reason to care about their credit score wouldn't see the unpaid debt attached to it but everyone else would.

This reminds me of a game we used to play called Axis and Allies. The rules are somewhat complicated for a board game. To play without a personal copy of the rules almost guaranteed a loss the first 10-15 games you played. Because asking if a move you had planned was legal alerted everyone to what you were going to do in the long run.

Lawyers know the rules to the game. No more, no less. A greedy cocksucking bastard will be that no matter what occupation he/she is in. Same for a generous, caring individual. A high percentage of the stories of attorney wrong doing come from people who came in second in civil cases. Of course the person in the wrong couldn't be them!
