Music Treasures

That's one hell of a playlist!!! Wish I had it. Just reading it had me reliving my past.

[BTW, I think "I'm Sorry" is by Brenda Lee.]

Music keeps me marginal sane! Thanks for prompting me to put more music on my computer - new and old.

Lauren, your first name - Fiona Apple brings back some old memories of wandering into a bar where she was singing - she was completely unknown and it was amazing. She was too young to be off the stage in the bar because they served alcohol...!

Sisyphus - an excellent list! Glad to see Warren Zevon and The English Beat and more.

Though clearly famous - just getting into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - I always like Tom Waits - much of his stuff is way off main stream.

Others: though I'm stuck in the 80's...

The Passions
X
The Jesus and Mary Chain
Japan
Wall of Vodoo
Joy Division
Nick Cave
Billy Bragg

And so many more...

R.K., that is an awesome list of songs. Reminds me of my family, who played music all the time. Wonderful memories particularly around the holidays - those TV Christmas specials. As they say, "Thanks for the memories".

Enjoy!

WTF, you might want to stay away from this one...there might be Tea Baggers inside.
RK, great collection!

Thanks for posting -- that's a lot of the stuff I grew up with. Brings back fond memories.

The iBand production is pretty cool, too!

Nice songlist there RK; can't say I heard them when they first came out though.

Has anyone got any names to share of music they've discovered?

My recent list:
Fiona Apple
Dresden Dolls
Fishbone (okay they're pretty famous but never in the mainstream)
Florance + THe Machine
The Bid Damn Band
Telesma

In that same vein, if you like Fishbone, try The Greyboy Allstars, DJ Greyboy and Liquid Soul. They're more acid jazz to Fishbone's metal jazz, but they've all worked great in playlists with them. I suppose it depends on what you like about Fishbone -- is it the jazzy riffs or the hard sound?

Lately, I've been listening to Bon Iver, The Fleetfoxes, Grizzly Bear, Sun Kil Moon, and Iron & Wine. All very mellow...

You want a great blast from the past song list, you gotta have a Tommy James song in there

Does Nirvana circa 1988-89 count? Originally Posted by discreetgent

I actually used to like them, when compared against the backdrop of radio they aren't bad. However when compared against the 1000's of songs on my iPhone, everytime they come on I cringe at how poorly contrived they are and eventually deleted them off my music libraries and threw out their CDs.

Ouch, daggers to the heart lol
Some of these are pretty obscure

David Lanz, Cristofori's Dream -- beautiful piano music
Loreena McKennitt -- All Soul's Night & The Lady of Shallot
Lisa Lynne, Circle of Joy -- one of the most beautiful harp pieces EVER
Gypsy, Enchantress, "Bring back the Light" -- great singing
Tribe, the entire album Abort rocks
O positive, Toy boat, Toy boat, Toy boat
Jane Jensen, Comic Book Whore, Highway 90

Less Obscure

Big Country, "Just a Shadow" off the Steeltown album

My ATF, even though they were well before my time:
The Ventures, Walk Don't Run, etc.

I'm a musician and love music -- I could list thousands of pieces of music I like common, obscure, modern, old, etc. But I think these stand out as being not very widely known, and worth a listen.
For soothing piano music, I like Danny Wright.

I discovered him while traveling in the Northwest about 15 years ago.
