+1 to google voice. That's my "bat phone" of choice.

And, back on topic, I keep my hobby phone turned off and code locked in a desk drawer in my work office.

Don't underestimate the lengths a woman will go to to find something to nail your ass with. If she is suspicious she will go to any length to either prove or disprove her suspicions. All those places she would never look or even think about may be the very first place one of her friends will look. And don't think for a second that since she despises computers and wouldn't know how to even turn one on that she won't ask someone for help, she will.
Got things hidden in the attic because you know she would never go there since she is afraid of heights? What do you know about her friends? Co-workers? Family? Anyone else she comes in contact with? You don't! Women are a lot more intelligent and resourceful than some of them give each other. You should never underestimate them, any of them, ever.
So where do I hide my hobby phone? On my hip, in plain sight. My personal number is forwarded to that phone so I don't juggle two phones. My SO even has my "work" cell number. My hobby money is hidden in my wallet, she knows there is money there just in case I need to pay cash or buy something that I don't want her to know right away how much I paid. Anniversaries, Birthdays, Valentines day, all of these are good excuses to need cash.

Nothing is fool proof, regardless of what we do or how careful we are we will slip, we will make mistakes and open that door of suspicion but like boo boo said above, Be ready for damage control.

Without saying where, mine (along with some condoms and powdered Viagra) were once found by the customs folks at the border.

"What's this?" the young female officer asked.

"Powdered viagra, a surprise for the wife."

"So why was it hidden?"

"Well, that's the key, believe me, if she found it, it would be one HELL of a surprise!"

She put it back and didn't say another word.
Hide it in plain sight.

Over the years I've had and accumulated quite a few cell phones, thrown some away and kept a few. There's now a box in one of the cupboards with a few old phones, batteries and cables in it that no-one would ever guess also contained a hobby phone. I do take out the battery when not in use to minimize accidental activity. The biggest risk is that I might find one day that its all been thrown away, but I doubt it.

I just use the everyday phone. I erase everything at 5pm everyday religiously, I never store numbers either. We have separate accounts from long before we were married and left it that way. I have paperless billing and no one but me knows the password on my account.

I'm not married and so it's not an issue for me. However, I can envision someone reading this thread, thinking to themselves, "Yes, I have to hide my phone better," then using one of the suggestions above.

Next day, as wifey is doing housework, she hears from the fireplace riiiiiiinnnnnngggggg!

LMAO

Umm, be sure to TURN IT OFF!
+1 google voice
+1 dual SIM phone
-1 swapping SIM cards - a real pain

In the car locked with a good excuse. I usually forget where I hide stuff but I have my excuse burned into my brain.

-1 on Google. They gather and keep way too much info on you-like your searches, email accts and IP.

Yes, never never underestimate a womens ability to do anything! Especially to be sneaky! A woman who has never fired a gun in her life will hit a running dodging cheating husband 5 out of 6 times.

And don't forget those fake cans of whatever that are actually little "safes" you can buy at gun shows. Just don't use the Pledge Furniture Polish cans or some other product she might want to use or try. A men's hairspray can might be a good choice - just not WD-40 or some other product she might be curious about in case she's the least bit handy.

I bought a Boost Mobile to use as a hobby phone with a $50/mo. all use card (unlimited Internet, text and talk) but I still like my old cheap "old style" cell phone. I'm ready to sell the Boost or throw it in the trash.
One thing to be careful about using your normal phone or have Google Voice forward to normal phone: this leaves a paper trail on the phone company that can be traced.

Having a completely separate phone/SIM is the only way to get around that, but does impose its own risks.
I have 2 suggestions for this.

1. P.O box - that way you use it only when needed and at the post office most convenient to you.

2.Here`s a strategy that works well- Show your interest in cars and take your SO to a car dealer on 1 weekend on the pretext that you like checking out new cars and test driving them. Take her a 2nd time and then a 3rd time .
And everyone knows the dealer salespeople are very pesky. They will call you, hound you, pound you incessantly inquiring whether you are still interested,if they can make a better deal or what they need to do to earn your business..

And so in order to avoid these pesky calls from these salespeople, you do not want to give your real cell number to them as they would call you repeatedly and irritate you- similar to telemarketers. To avoid these irritating salesguys calling you all the time, you prefer a prepaid cheapo phone whose number can be given to every salesperson. That way you can talk to them whenever you want to--about the new cars, new deals, new leases etc etc--this should be the explanation given to your SO!! And she would never doubt it.

Plus an added benefit--by the 3rd time she is bored and wouldn`t want to accompany you again.Make sure these 3 times you are at the dealer for atleast 1-2 hrs. So the 4th time you go-she is not interested, she asks you to go by yourself...Now you have 2 hrs+hobby phone==time you can spend with a provider without having to explain the time period. Happy car shopping !!
