BTW I recommend Gene Smiley's Rethinking the Great Depression. He covers post WWI farmer issues well, and he discusses in great detail how the break up of the Austro-Hungarian Empire destabilized European trade and markets; this, of course, had an impact on the banks and on the gold standard.
