Do we just need to go back to the wild west of the 1800s ? Everybody with a holster and a firearm at their side.

I love all the contributions from those on the right. So many suggestions. The ones Barley put forth are the best. Wacko has the second best. BB came up with some great suggestions too. Those dudes are really smart. Can’t wait for the rest of their great ideas. Sadly I think Levi might be senile. His decline over the past year has been been very obvious.

The best way to "control" guns is to repeal the Second Amendment.

That would be the single most effective method for banning guns. Without the Second Amendment, any law banning this or that specific firearm, or a whole class of guns would be unassailable in court.

This is why gun bans and confiscations can be made to work in New Zealand, Australia and Caneda; They have no Second Amendment or any of the other protections and rights we enjoy through The Bill of Rights.

The Constitution provides two mechanisms for adopting amendments.
I think the problem with the entire debate is the "What If" and "It could change things" outlook. At the bottom of this there's two sides, the ones that want gun control as a means to disarm the population, and the ones that want to prevent the mass killings. The later doesn't even realize the former exists. It's been said, but it's worth noting again, the laws on the books aren't enforced. The federal and state governments are usually too busy at a local level trying to keep society from destroying itself to worry about the outliers. What's never discussed is the fact that the community at large, in most of these cases, knew the person had mental issues, and chose the "it's not my problem" route. I'd be all for community lead gun overwatch committes, they don't have disarm power but they do have a mechanism for presenting a case to local law about an issue they see. To purchase a firearm you'd have to be a member of that community for X years to avoid the transitory buyers.
