The latest from what I've heard is that they want to decriminalize it which is a step in the right direction but not legalizing it. They still need to be able to create revenue for state from it.

If the hobby is decriminalized, then police resources can be focused somewhere else. In NY the Legislature and Executive branches are firmly in Dem hands. What will eventually happen is that the hobby will be eligible to be taxed. I know of strippers who will dance for a few days and hobby on the side, so their hobby income, which is greater than their stripper income, is not reported. In NY it is about control and money.
