Most computers use 32 bit Operating Systems...More and more new computers are coming with 64 bit Windows. Click on start, right click "computer", then "properties" and one of the items should be something like "xx-bit operating system".
And the 32 bit should run on a 64 bit OS, though less efficiently. You can loo your computer up on the manufacturers web site and it should tell you if it is 32 or 64 bit.
