Definition of respect...

I'm a little old school when it comesto respect. It 3was something you automatically gave your elder's,peers, officals etc.
However, anyone else outside of that it was something you earned. Once that's done you give & you recieve.
Those who lack or have no respect for themselves will in now way shape or form be capable of respecting you or other's.

There is a general level of respect that I give to everyone I meet, via email or in person. I don't have to know them in order to extend this to them. It's a given, IMO, and it goes up or down from there as I get to know them. At this point, it is earned one way or another.

Respect and courtesy go hand in hand, to me anyway. Courtesy can turn into basic civility or contempt once respect is lost, depending on who you offend. Courtesy is not in the cards for someone I have no respect for.

Call it what you will. Treat people politely, but more importantly even than that is to listen to what they are telling you, verbally and non-verbally, respiond to their needs and wishes as best you can, and do not go beyond their limits
I give everyone I meet a certain level of respect simply as a fellow human being. Then their behavior dictates whether they gain or lose my respect as time goes on. Mostly I try not to approach any new person or relationship with DISrespect until they've earned it too (much like Vivienne Rey said).

Welcome to D&T Cici.
I think there's a difference between treating someone respectfully and respecting them. It's not that hard to treat anyone you meet for the first time respectfully...but respecting someone takes time and knowledge. By the same token, it can take time to build respect for someone..but only a minute to lose respect for that same person.

Hi Cici! Relax and have a coffee.
Thanks, gents. Glad to be here.
Welcome to this little corner of craziness.
Cici, please tell us that you don't have any pets that you dress up in stupid hats.
But if they put on expensive shoes, we're in trouble. Ever see a labrador in Jimmy Choos?
