What I'm referring to is not a single Republican senator has shown any interest in supporting the John Lewis Voting Rights Act or the For the People Act. Bills that would protect the right to vote. That may or may not be true (most likely not true) and quite frankly is irrelevant. Making it more difficult to vote and for no good reason is bad. I'm not sure why you think making it more difficult to vote would motivate people to be more likely to vote and I don't see how shortening the number of early voting days or limiting locations for dropping off one's ballot has any impact of 'stuffing the ballot box'. Since they believe that the 2020 election was stolen then it follows that they will feel any action is justified to steal the election in 2024. If the election is close then we can easily see the chaos suggested by Robert Kagan in his WaPo opinion piece. maybe the courts would intervene but how long would that take? We had an insurrection over the 2020 election what makes you think we wouldn't have another if the courts are the ones who decide that the Republican candidate lost? Originally Posted by billthecat46

Democratic leadership did not refuse to acknowledge that Bush and the former guy were the president elect, unlike many in a position of leadership in the Republican party after Biden was elected. And you won't find any polls showing that 2/3rds of Democrats believe that Clinton was the legitimate president in 2016, unlike Republicans in 2020.
If they really wanted to secure their wins, Republicans could always come up with better ideas. But that takes work, and they aren’t trying to go that route. election laws somehow give an advantage to Republicans. Originally Posted by TinyThey do because many of those laws very directly targets groups most likely to vote for Democrats.
What's your reasoning anyway? Originally Posted by TinyThese laws do in fact target Democratic voting groups.
As to why Republicans are put off by mail-in voting and drop boxes, it's because they theoretically make fraud easier. You can go to a mailbox or a drop box at 3:00 AM and insert a whole lot of ballots from dead people. Does that happen on a large scale? No. Originally Posted by TinySo the fraud doesn't happen but reducing the availability of those drop boxes does create an impediment to voting.
So why not humor them? Originally Posted by TinyBecause it creates an unnecessary impediment to voting.

Are those the "better ideas" you think Americans are clamoring for? If so, you are totally delusional.
Btw - it's called Election Day, not Election Month. Originally Posted by lustylad
