Dictatorship is commonly thought of as the best form of government. That is, if you open your eyes up to all of history, not just the recent past where any dingbat with a set of vocal cords can freely express an opinion, and certainly the very recent past where those talking dingbats were taught that democracy and, within it, their voice, was important. Benevolent dictatorship is the most effective means of governing. The hard part is maintaining benevolence.

Surely the greatest dictator would be the one who best avoided the people recognizing him as such--whether explicitly or otherwise. Call Putin a dictator and you might be sent to Siberia; on the other hand, Obama's race and the touchy-feely terms in which his totalitarian agenda is couched have been generally effective in keeping the D-word from crossing anybody's mind, let alone their lips. 100%? I would not consider that a realistic goal. I imagine rewards would be reaped before hitting 50%, but it would be hard to measure.

The only true test of a Dictator's Power is, after all of his efforts, you choose not to see things his way, and he simply says, "put him against the wall".

I certainly do not think either of these men have that power, but I do think either would take it if given.

President Obama would be more subtle about it, but you would be just as dead.
