What we get from all the commentators is the normal sex obsession.
We get things like 'he is socially liberal, but doctrinally conservative'.
The catholic commentator then goes on to say 'the core doctrines of the church are to do with abortion, homosexuality, euthenasia, promiscuity, contraception, bla bla bla'
about which Jesus and the new testament says not a single word (there's a challenge for you, OH, I'm sure you will find something somewhere!).
These are not core doctrines, the core doctrines are about love, charity, incarnation, resurrection, forgiveness.
So the catholic church is going to continue to appear in the media mainly as a cult to fight gays and contraception.
And they are surprised why they are held in contempt, or at minimum in irrelevance, by many in the west?
I don't think priestly celibacy is going to disappear any time soon.
I think this guy is probably a very cool and caring guy, who will show leadership by example, but when will the church divest itself of this sex obsession?
p.s. when there was that tragic fire in Argentina Buenos Aires a few years ago, he was one of the first on the scene, apparently.
