Congrats to Scott Brown and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, recent legislation there has also been very positive.

The real story with the Scott Brown win isn't that Obama is too liberal or "socialist" but that he was not left enough. I would bet that those expressing negative views of Obama didn't vote for him in the first place. It is the Democratic base that stayed home and put Scott Brown in the Senate. Interestingly, more than half of Brown's voters say that they support the public option as the number one health care reform. People across the spectrum are mad as hell and Brown was a very skilled campaigner at tapping into the rage. Coakley absolutely sucked at campaigning.....

I agree with my Republican friends that the Democrats are going to get their asses whipped this year but not because the nation wants conservatives but because the Dems have failed to deliver anything. Obama has also continued many of the criminal activities of the Bush administration as if no one would notice. Forcing people to buy insurance from criminal private corporations is probably an accomplishment in some other universe but people will understand the consequences soon.

Agree with SoSide here ^^^. Remember that Mass already has a statewide healthcare plan that is very similar to Senate bill; a plan that Brown supported. So this wasn't a referendum on healthcare bill in D.C., although that's the way the beltway pundits spin it (because it's always about them!).

If there's a silver lining here, it might be that --

(a) the dem leadership wakes up and realizes that if they want the dem base to continue voting for them, they better do something we want. For liberals like me Obama admin has served up one crap sandwich after another. We're not happy. That's why all the "socialist agenda" comments are so ridiculous, because Obama is certainly not pleasing the left in this country.

(b) Maybe it will force some changes in the Senate rules, that make it so easy for a minority party -- that represents an even smaller fraction of the populace -- to obstruct legislation. This notion that you need 60 votes to do anything is NOT the way it's always been. The filibuster used to be used rarely, and then it took real effort. Now it's meaningless. Reid deserves all the blame for letting it get to this state -- he's pathetic.

Whether it's a good or bad thing in the long run, I can't say, but man, did the Democrats have a bad candidate. She just couldn't stop saying or doing things that made her seem... soulless, for lack of a better word.

As far as politics, I'll explain the evolution of my thinking.

21 - Younger: Didn't care, didn't know much about anything and didn't want to.

21 - 25: Started to realize the importance of voting, knowing who's in power and how it all effected me and my family. I started watching allot of Daily Show and Colbert as well; because sometimes you want to be able to laugh at politics and it made it less boring at times.

25 - Now: I realized that it's all one big crap-shoot. No matter if your Republican, Democrat, pro this, anti that... it's all just a bunch of smoke and mirrors. They say what they say to get votes and then seek out their true agendas once in office.

There are so many things going on behind closed doors, that even if you spent all-day, every-day, researching a person, you'll never really get the full truth. The best you can do is go with your gut and pray they follow through with what they said they'd do.

Soside.....REALLY. Not liberal enough? Thats why they lost? IMHO, you are not able to see the forest for the trees. The majority of this nation is not in favor of the proposed health plan and/or public option. This fact was stamped true by a Republican winning in the lefty liberal MA. Every other Dem senator up for election this year will have a tough time keeping their job because like the people of MA, the people of the USA do not want big government. Pelosi, Reid, Obama (especially Obama) are blatently arogent and it will be their downfall, and I will cheer the day that capotalism will be allowed to bring this country and its economy back to a powerful and state.

Like when capitalism helped us throughout the decade...when the finacial markets, housing markets, job markets collapsed under the "small" government Bush admin.. while the deficits set records. Its amazing how short peoples memories are. I hope that people will wake up and realize that this gridlock in Washington is getting us no where and will hold their representatives accountable to do something constructive...Dems and Republicans.

AND... the plan all along after getting the HC through, was to go back to amnesty for 20 million illegals which would put them all on the universal healthcare. (and they will be so thankful that all 20 million would be voting in Nov. for Dems)

Lets not forget that it was capitalism in the 90's in the form of the dotcom boom that made Clinton seem successful. But also do not forget that it was also Clinton that signed into law the housing act that would lower the standards for home loans. Subprime mortgages then were rampent causing the eventual housing bubble that burst in '08 causing the economic downturn. Bush tried on many occasions to put more strengent standards on lending for home buyers, but Barnie Frank and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mack would have non of it. The first of many bailouts was to Fannie and Freddie, all of which was run by Barnie Frank, who at one point stated that both institutions were strong and on stable ground. They were never in any danger of failing.....we all know how that turned out.

Polling indicates that you are right that a majority opposes the current proposed health care bills but for different reasons. Conservatives just don't want anything done but many others oppose it because it does not include the Medicare-like expansion, which would actually address the real problems in health insurance. Depending on how the questions are asked, clear majorities of Americans want some form of the "public option."
As to Americans wanting "small government", that is debatable. People often say such things until their favorite government function is threatened. But sadly, small government will not mean that you are governed lightly. What it will mean is that you will be governed by large corporations answerable to no one. It is staggering testimony to the hammerlock that conservatives have on the media in this country that a realistic discussion of the options is never presented in the corporate media.

The core problem of our current health care "crisis" is government regulation and protectionism. So the real answer is to remove government intervention in health care. Let UL type companies handle the pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and health professional certifications. Disband the FDA. Let health insurance compete in a free market.

Someone just pushed my immigration button. I’m and immigrant to this country. There is a procedure to be followed. My family and I had physicals (chest x-rays and all) at a medical facility specified by the US. We had to show we had jobs, and provide bank account information to prove we wouldn’t be a burden to society. We had criminal background checks in our country of origin and by the FBI. It pisses me off that for the sake of political correctness we now have allowed the bar to be lowered.

Back on the Brown MA topic... I think the Obama administration misread the Bush backlash that placed him in power as support for his ideology. Both parties are being controlled by fringe elements that don’t represent mainstream America. The consequence is party voters moving to independent voters. I think that is a good thing because now parties will need to earn our votes. However, the concern I have is that by losing the people of mainstream America, the parties are actually becoming more radicalized.

As for reading the bill, I had to try but it gave me such a headache. It is totally frightening to see how our liberty will be taken from us and our children and the politicians aren't even reading the bill.

Have you heard how they will get around Congress rules to pass it now? Just pass the Senate bill (no conference) and 52 Senators will sign a paper saying they will "fix" it later by what the House wants.

WHAT? That isn't the way it works but Scott Brown has changed the way it usually works. And they are determined to cram this down the peoples throats ....... no matter what! No rules, even their own will not keep them from this task.

My point is that they are politicians, they all lie.
