"Supreme Court (Texas) to hear appeal on "pole" tax!!

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

What about my 1st amendment right? The right to peaceably hobby???
They left that one out...
IMO the "pole tax" won't have a significant impact on the gentleman's club business. As a recent ex-smoker (cross my fingers), I complained about the ever increasing tax on cigarettes, but my consumption didn't change. Similarly, I don't think a $5 tax approaches the threshold which would change the behavior of people who frequent strip clubs.

From a moral standpoint, an argument can be made for both sides. Is it fair for the government to tax one segment of the population (the wealthy or smokers or strip club patrons) to benefit the rest of society? On the other hand, do we as a nation, have an ethical responsibility to care for those less fortunate (the poor), more vulnerable (children and the elderly), or help prevent sexual assault?

Here's an interesting article on the general topic of conservative vs liberal fiscal policy.

Personally, if I were rich, I wouldn't mind shouldering a heavier tax burden if those taxes helped feed a child or shelter the poor. Then again, everyone has a different definition of what it means to be rich, but that's a whole 'nother thread.

Your right to spend your money, all of your money, is key to your success. No one else will spend it better, especially if you don't have a lot to throw around. If you are going to pay for something out of your own pocket, you are going to make sure it works the way you want it to . Not the way someone who has not worked for it thinks you should.
If you like our culture, rather than any where else in the world, then you need to think or go and live in your Nirvana, wherever that is.
By the way, in that place, are all the providers available according to need?
