The Orient Express

The Wikipedia article has more information.

The original Paris-Istanbul "Orient Express" last ran in 1977. I saw a "60 Minutes" piece by Morley Safer: they rode the last run. The piece was beautifully intercut with clips from the various movies set on the train. Originally Posted by Sidewinder

In the articles that I've read about it, this offering is fairly new and the company redid the original car and restored it? I'm just trying to remember.

And I don't know when they started the train that recreates this experience once a year but it's better than nothing!

Here's an article about it:

Thanks for all of the responses. Might not be able to ever travel the Orient Express but I would sure like to try, even if it's on a smaller trip.
I do not think I have ever met a train that I did not love( even Amtrak lol) When I lived in Europe I bought my first interrail pass, and that was how I first became attached to rail travel. There is something about being on a train that is so relaxing. It is even fun when you are alone, because you always meet interesting people.

I have not travelled by train for a while due to the fact that with the exception of Europe trains are not dog friendly. But, when I was travelling more I went through Europe, Uzbekistan,Thailand, Canada, and a tiny bit of California by train. So far Canada is my favorite.

I have never travelled on The Orient Express, but it has to be amazing. The Trans Siberian Express has always been one I would love to do.

Also in India there are trains that take you right into their mountains.

I am strange, sometimes I just drool over the Amtrak website's, fares, and time tables section. If you ever get the chance to do a major rail journey I hope you do it. Some of my happiest memories have been from being on trains.
