Bienvenidos!!! Eva, to the Alamo city, Hope you have a wonderful short stay here and the guys treat you like a "reyna"
1. La Fogata, is great. There is another place more of the Mexican dishes called La Gloria 100 E Grayson 78215 you might want to try on the river walk but away from downtown in the old Pearl brewery area
2. Hon Machi 1321 N.Loop 1604 E 78232 good sushi and hibachi cuisine. So many good restaurants here in SA , enjoy your stay and hope you have a big welcome from us guys here in San Antonio

Lisa's on bandera rd and henerys puffy taco also on bandera rd two of the best Mexican spots there is. Mi Tierra and la margarita are trash just tourist places I wouldn't recommend them.

Since you asked about Sushi AND Thai, I would suggest Thai Bistro & Sushi on DeZavala W of I-10 and the Post Office.
Both are very good, and if you can't decide you can try both

That's two votes for La Fogata ! Originally Posted by Eva Damita

I had been going there since they just had the shack part with just two or three tables in it. The other day, I ordered the poblano peppers in the cream sauce, and the sauce taste like flour. My son has the mushroom tacos with melted cheese, and he said the cheese taste different. It was his favorite restaurant. Did they change ownership or get a new bean counter?

On the sushi, one can't compare San Antonio with other large cities. Our sushi just isn't as good here, maybe because of the small Japanese population here. I just wait until I am in Dallas or Manhattan for Sushi.

Sushi is the BOMB!!
Have fun in SA girl!
For Sushi I really like Wasabi Sushi Bistro right at Wurzbach and 10. It's delicious, they have decent lunch specials and (usually) the staff is pretty friendly.
I went to Piranha Sushi, today. It was ok but I believe that who one goes with makes a big difference on how good the Sushi is. I know that sounds crazy but when I go with someone fun, the sushi tastes better. When I go with someone that is dull, nothing tastes that great. It is the same thing for the comedy club. When I go with someone fun, I laugh all night but when I would go with my live - in gf, nothing was funny at the comedy club. BTW, I just kicked out my gf, nothing was fun with her, any more. The food has to be good and the friends one goes with has to be good, too. Blanco Café on Blanco Road is good Tex-Mex. Las Hacienda De Los Barrios out in Stone Oak by SACS, think it is on Redland Road is nice, out on the patio, with the water misters, the fans, and the live music is pretty awesome, too.
