Just like the news article on prostitution. The conclusions just are not accurate when it comes to the girls income. Some of these ladies are doing OK, but few are getting rich as the article implied.
In my business, I have had a nice large sale many times in my career but I have not had those large sales every day. I have referred to that income as icing on the cake. The everyday work pays lower and I give large discounts to my regular customers - so that they stay with me. But that is the important operational income.
After I set up the work, I now have others do it for less money; but, the money comes in every month and it pays for other peoples salaries and overhead. What to I get out of it? I get a support staff that is always available to help when the larger jobs come along; plus, I give everyone a piece of the action. No one wants to work if there is not something in it for them. The big sales are spun off to the side and not considered as the normal operation and not evaluated for normal income bonus.
Why? Because if it is calculated as part of the average income it inflates what we are really earning. How is everyone doing on a regular basis is the point. Are you living hand to mouth and are you out of business if the big sale is not made?
To bring this home clearly. We operate OK day to day, and everyone is happy. The opportunity for a big sale and a lot of income comes along as icing on the cake. So everyone and his cousin knows about it and everyone is out for grabs on this big sale, can I cut my prices easier than everyone else and maintain a better share of the market? Of course. I once did this on a large government sale with nine competitors bidding against me for just materials. I sold everything at my cost just to spend the money in the current fiscal year and wipe out my own yearly profits by spending the money (cash basis accounting & no inventory). Thus, profits were pushed into the following year and no tax was due for the previous year.
Statistics can be bull shit. Think about what is being said. What is the underlying story.
So, this crap in the news article about how much money girls can make in a single day is just pure propaganda. The question, is how well one can do in a year, or many years.
