Helping Strangers

Sums my sentiments when it comes to assisting those in need pretty well. Originally Posted by Silverchair

To this day I have no idea where she went or why with all of the help I offered she needed to return to drugs and such. Originally Posted by JayceeRivers

so why can't I buy whatever drug I want? It's my body. If the gubment can control some stuff I ingest, will they prevent me from my caffeine fix also?

I love when people say, "well if drugs were legal, all you'd do is get high and do nothing.
I'm pretty sure that's a person's choice, and didnt the pilgrims come here to be able to have free choice?
Or is the problem that you think people are going to get hurt? If that's the case, lets fire all the MDs, take all the cars, and take all the guns.

so ?
you think people are robbed by people wanting drugs? or candy bars, or both?
likely not candy bars, cause I go to walmart and buy candy bars, I can't go buy drugs..why not?

yes, I am concerned about kids, and kids dont drink or smoke,? oh they do, but that's unhealthy for them, oh, well so its being a fatty.

Do I think kids are going to end up being on the gubment tab(sounds like a different problem) but kids are ALREADY fat and stupid(look at BMI and test scores)

The war on drugs is NOT working,....when there is a demand, there will be supply,
can the war on drugs be won? I don't see how, isnt everything being done now to stop the war on drugs?
Drugs are in all prisons in the USA? how then do you expect to keep drugs off the streets??

I suggest you look at this video, It opened my eyes as well as having a junkie in my life for a long time.(She did pot, meth, heroin and yet, held down a job and killed/mugged no one and didnt ask me for money or get money from me) I only found out about her habbit when after 3 months of dating, I took her to the hospital(uti/kidney infection) and the nurse asked her about her track marks....I only knew she smoked nicotine/pot before that. I knew she had done IV drugs, I just didnt know she was still doing it.

likely not candy bars, cause I go to walmart and buy candy bars, I can't go buy drugs..why not? Well first your speaking as someone who has money, when statistics will show that most abusers of opiates are not wealthy and that there addiction will quickly overtake their ability to pay for it. When this happens they will rob and steal to get the money to pay for it.

yes, I am concerned about kids, and kids dont drink or smoke,? oh they do, but that's unhealthy for them, oh, well so its being a fatty. Being fat only affects them and they will seldom attack for the money for a candy bar.

In trouble? I am talking about a the gubment wasting my tax payer money,
The big way they are doing is because they are "fighting" a war they can't win.,
A Pew study says it costs the U.S. an average of $30,000 a year to incarcerate an inmate, but the nation spends only an average $11,665 per public school student.

In addition to the complete disregard for freedom, making these illegal automatically makes the value shoot through the roof. It CREATES a black market and crime to go along with it. It's really common sense, but our government seems to like to do the opposite. I think government corruption also has something to do with it. What I don't understand is how people are so brainwashed in regard to the realities of this failure of a policy. I don't particularly like drugs and I don't think most should be used by anyone. However, pharm companies legalize and profit off of drugs that are AT LEAST as harmful as illegal drugs. They pay off the government to allow them to push out what they will onto the people. How many people are hooked on Oxycontin and Xanax? How many people are alcoholics? Does anyone REALLY think that something like pot is more harmful than these? There is plenty of evidence that shows otherwise. Making hormones illegal is even more ridiculous.

I think honest education is the answer. I think legalizing drugs is the answer. I think treatment over imprisonment is the answer. History has shown that legalizing drugs will cause a slight increase in use TEMPORARILY, after which there is a decline below what we experience NOW in the USA. It also kills the black market and crime as why sell something that is easily obtained at a cheaper price? If there is no money in it, no one will want to sell it...

I agree, lets move this to a new thread, cause most people who need help arent on drugs/alcohol.
I tried to help someone out today and they ended up lying to me and taking advantage of my generosity. It was outside the hobby just to clarify. I can see why now people are reluctant to help strangers now because of people out there like this. Being lied to is one of the few things that really pisses me off. I was just doing it out of the goodness of my heart and now this person has ruined it for people that I might have actually helped in the future. Now I'm wiser for this ordeal I had to go through and it won't happen again. Just wanted to rant and there it was.

If anyone wants to share how they tired to help someone in the past and they took advantage be my guest. I would like to hear of others experiences. Originally Posted by johnsontedt84

Back about 1-2 yrs ago, I was at walmart early morning and it was cold and there were some people more toward the SAMS side of the walmart area, I was going to my car and was approached by a little redhead, seeing as I had just dumped my GF, who was a redhead, which I have an affinity for, I listened to her,
I think(I dont recall details of conversion) that she and her guy needed a ride to their home to thier kids.
I said sure, and let them in my car and they were likely junkies or something, but looked about dead, tired, so maybe high, or coming down, or just tired as hell.

I was driving them north. and I told them I was getting mcdonalds, Im buying get what you want,.
We got out, went inside, the girl went to the bathroom, or somewhere, and the guy and I got food,, not much food, maybe a total of 3 burgers and fries(for them)
nothing for their kids, (because the guy didnt hear the girl talk about kids, so he didnt know that was part of the reason I drove them)
so back in the car, the girl had joined us in the lobby, the girl said very loudly, so I'd hear, WHAT DID YOU GET THE KIDS?>
I drove them to a house in independance, watched them go inside and I went home
I dont know if they have kids, I dont know if they lied, I don't know if they do drugs, carry guns, etc
They were young and seemed to need help, so I helped them

Another time I was in price chopper, freezer section, opened a freezer door, looked at HOT POCKETS, thought about Jim Gaffigan saying HOT POCKETS! and chuckled. .Im still standing there as I was approached by a junkie, and asked if I had any spare change. I stepped back, closed the freezer door, looked her up and down and let out a laugh. This was the 2nd time at the price chopper(off noland) id been asked that.

I just walked away.

Well I do have a great story to share about someone I helped recently:

There is a homeless man at my church that comes every Sunday for service, and not the lunch we serve.

He is an artist, and paints these paintings of women. Most of them always have huge tits. This tickles me as I giggle thinking, "Men lol". So I buy them from him for $20/each. He is now a professional artist. He makes money instead of me giving it to him.

Easter Sunday I didn't know if he'd go to lunch with my family and me so I gave him $50 for a painting. I asked him anyway to lunch, and he said yes. We went to the Plaza to have a Scrumptious meal.

I was so worried they weren't going to let him in, and I was going to have to go ape shit on them. There was not even a "look" as they seated and waited on us. McCormick and Schmick's may not be the best restaurant in town, but they sure have my vote as to being a very Classy and Kind dining establishment. (Two Thumbs Up!)

Afterwards I asked him where he wanted me to drive him. He said he wanted to go shopping at the Family Dollar on Broadway in Westport where he stays.

So I see him yesterday at church. Go to give him a hug noticing he has on a new shirt, shoes, his hair was all styled and smells really nice to boot.

After church he's holding a different Bible than his normal one. He said with the money I gave him he bought all that stuff Easter Sunday after our lunch.

I don't know how he did it because I can blow through $50 like it's stick of gum lol, but he managed to buy all of those items with that money.

So if someone says that no Good deed goes unpunished, well here is your proof that they are wrong lol.

So Keep Giving

My family and I wonder constantly why he remains homeless, but we never ask him out of respect.

To me he seems like a dude that dropped a bunch of a**d back in the day, smoke a lot of p** and probably did whatever else was around and available. I have a few friends that I have known for over twenty years like that. It is really sad to see them now, and as for my limited knowledge I do not think there is any way to fix or correct that brain damage.

He's a really great guy, and would do anything for anyone with no expectations. Yet people do all kinds of sick and mean shit to him while he is asleep night after night on the ground around the Westport area. Yet... He Always keeps a smile on his face, and manages to stays positive. He helps keep things in perspective in my life. I can get/be a little dramatic so he really helps reality settle back in forcing me to stop sweating the small stuff.

I knew he trusted me because he left Everything that he owned in the trunk of my car during our lunch. I appreciated that immensely. He also said that God had revealed a fear of mine that he and I share. He told me, and I was like "Wow, I have told maybe like 3-4 people that in my life". I knew then that God had brought us together for some specific reason. I just haven't figured that out yet lol.

Next time you see a homeless person, maybe you can think of this guy so that you are able to see them as a person instead of a burden. Yes, everyone should be doing their part to make society run perfectly, but I am sure we can all think of at least one thing we do that is not beneficial to society lol. I know that I can name a few things about myself that are not so aesthetically pretty lol.
