It's spreading already and if not contained it'll get worse, not paranoia just the facts. I wonder how this is going to impact Texas-OU next weekend?

It isn't spreading. So far the only confirmed case has been one person, and the people who were at highest risk from contracting from him are being quarantined and monitored.

Is it possible someone was infected and slipped through the cracks? Absolutely, but odds are really good that any potential additional infections have been identified already, and it will stop there.

The family has now been quarantined, but it's a good size apt complex.. hopefully it's contained, but no one will know for a few days. PLUS, it's NOT "Dallas", it's a small part of Dallas.

"Not in our area yet"...

I'm writing this at 6:11PM. By 9:11PM someone with the virus could be here...or by 7:30PM if they fly. Simply thinking a few miles (or thousands) insulates us from this is not very accurate, is it?

Folks, here's the thing, at least give it some consideration.

Ask yourself where you are getting your information. Are you considering one source or multiples?
Is the primary news source you use noted for any bias, slanting views, etc?

WHO OWNS THE NEWS OUTLET YOU FREQUENT... Trace it all the way back and find out for yourself where they interconnect.

WHO is the CDC? Are they private or a government managed entity?

Have you ever heard...from any public official..."We underestimated the (fill in the blank).

Ask yourself is the person who has been diagnosed at the same hospital that initially mis-diagnosed his symptoms in the first place and sent him out in the world?

I'm not trying to fan paranoia at all. I am TRYING to make some learn to question the information they receive and not be a simplistic lemming who just says "well they tell me I am safe, why would they lie"?

Question everything...not in a paranoid manner, but in a "I have my own brain" manner. Don't let your opinion be formed by someone else...intake information, and decide for yourself.

Heres one "nugget" of information regarding the victim...what this says to me is "are there more"? Few are going to come forward UNTIL they are sick & contagious...if there are more.

Despite Duncan's experience, he checked "no" on an airport exit form when he left for the U.S. that asked if he had been in contact with anyone who had Ebola. It's not clear whether Duncan was aware that the woman died of Ebola

Just read that the four that are being isolated who were living with him have been isolated because they did NOT comply with instructions to not leave their home.

So basically no one knows who they came into contact with during that time.

At a 50 percent mortality rate... it's some scary shit.
According to a few news outlets, Duncan was staying with a girlfriend and her two children. A friend was the one who drove him to the hospital the first time. There's our four people. Now the friend had to take him because, according to the media, his girlfriend was at work. So she was potentially in contact with others. Likewise with the family friend. The kids may have been school age? We aren't even factoring in the paramedics, the nurses or hospital intake personal from the first visit, people he potentially waited with in the hospital. There are many infection vectors not being considered or simply being glossed over.

We should not have allowed people traveling from these regions into the country as a precautionary measure. This has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with public safety. At this point all we can do is hope the situation is under control.

While this certainly is nothing more than scraping stories from the 'net, I found it sobering to read that not EVERYONE in the health community is convinced this virus is NOT capable of airborne spread.

Didn't you say "Ask yourself where you are getting your information. Are you considering one source or multiples? Is the primary news source you use noted for any bias, slanting views, etc?"

And these sources are credible WHY?

I stick with the these:

http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/mobile/c...?id=8589991239

"It cannot be spread simply by being near someone who is infected. People only become contagious after they begin to have symptoms."

http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-c...806.1402975828

Are you equally concerned with the "Marburg virus?" or have you even heard of that or a bunch of other sh_t out there the press doesn't cover?

Remember the H2N2 pandemic? The press will publish anything to sell papers or in this age of technology - ad space.

Paul Simon said it best "they're only out to capture my dime."

Can we have a discussion about really scary things like I35 traffic?

While this certainly is nothing more than scraping stories from the 'net, I found it sobering to read that not EVERYONE in the health community is convinced this virus is NOT capable of airborne spread.

I said it was merely an internet scrape...just as yours is. You have proven that you will only search out data that supports your predetermined beliefs. I'm trying to stay open minded about the dangers. We just differ in what we believe and what we don't. Its no major deal. I actually HOPE you are right.

And I stay off of I35 as much as I can.

This is news. It is real. Its not made up. Do you firmly believe we are told everything that is going on?

IF everyone knows how its transmitted and how to avoid it, why are so many health care workers coming down ill? Why did a photographer get infected? Why is there concerns about all the kids that went to the victims kids school? I mean, if its ONLY passed from infected & symptomatic people, why the concern?

The saddest thing about this is that after the scumbag media sensationalizes this, and it blows over with nothing much happening, the public will be even more desensitized to the REAL health risks.

When something REAL comes along, the public will say, "oh, it's just another case of the misinfotainment industry in action." Just like the people in New Orleans in 2005 saying hurricanes aren't that big a deal because the last few ones weren't as bad as "they" made them out to be.

The flu kills something like 20-40,000 people in the US every year. The 1918 flu pandemic killed something like 3-6% of the population of the whole word. Other than vaccination, we don't do a lot better against the flu now than we did then. Vaccines don't work if you don't take them, or if the flu strain is different from what was in the vaccine.

The much hyped (and marketed) antiviral drugs aren't even claimed to help unless you take them right away, and then they don't help much. There's beginning to be a lot of doubt that they actually help at all.

H5N1 flu has a very high death rate, but it doesn't spread easily from human to human yet. If it crossbreeds and learns to do that, watch.

Don't worry about Ebola. Worry about the flu, and the variation of the flu that we haven't heard of yet. And the new or mutated virus that we haven't heard about yet.

Also worry about the damn farmers feeding their livestock antibiotics all the time and breeding superbugs.

There are risks. We're about due for a major pandemic. I don't think Ebola is likely to be "the big one," but the big one is coming.

Don't get complacent if this blows over.

BTW, get your pneumonia vaccine. It's cheap and lasts many years.

If we all would just funnel Worries, Fears, Paranoia into ACTION, Awareness , and Best Practices - then the risks and dangers would be much better contained or even minimized.

GG, you make some great points (especially on the risks of the flu and superbugs and overuse of antibiotics), but WORRY will only feed fear and paranoia and not solve a thing.
I'd replace Worry with Be aware or Learn about or even better: Educate yourself about ....

WELL, we can all relax and blow off ANY concerns. our great Governor has spoken, and lord only knows, THAT dumbass NEVER LIES OR MAKES MISTAKES.. We're safe from anything, including comets, climate change, or pandemics. I feel soooo much better now that the elected officials, and those that THEY appointed, are on the case.. I can sleep comfortably knowing that Uncle Perry has my back.. maybe that lying buffoon, Abbot will even order a cure for ALL flu types, and in his spare time, create cars that don't use gas, and will repair them selves.. yeah, DATS IT!! They can legislate all problems to be illegal.
Mr Owell was correct, although a bit premature.
