Usually they are very young, come from a broken home or other fucked up background, and they don't yet know how to take care of themselves. Then this older guy comes along with the "I'll take care of everything baby... you won't have to worry about anything. Just do exactly what I tell you, go make that money, and I'll handle everything else." He promises family, which she is sorely missing, and security, which she is desperately seeking. She gets hooked in, then blindsided by the ruthlessness, and still has nowhere to go and no idea how to take care of herself. So, at least with him she is clothed and fed with a roof over her head. That's the appeal.

This would theoretically imply that IQ ranges all the way down to -10, which is impossible - heck, even people with severe lissencephaly, a catastrophic brain disorder, clock in at around 20.
What does this mean? Well, for every person with an IQ that is just a few points above a hundred, logically, there must be 2 or three people with IQs lower than 100.
For those special individuals like Hawking, DeGrasse Tyson and the like, maybe 10-15 sub 100 IQ's a piece.
A rough estimate would be that perhaps 70-80% of the world population would be sub-100. Meaning that they are of 'below average' intelligence, whatever that really means.
These are, yes, people who are functionally retarded, people with down's syndrome and the like, but also people who are completely normal in most respects, but may lack the ability to acquire/retain education, ambition, vision and drive because of their mental make-up.
Oftentimes, they accept where they are in life, perhaps because they cannot imagine better for themselves, cannot imagine deserving to be treated better, and come from a background that reminds them that things could definitely be worse.
The ability to imagine is the root of our power as a species.
Thomas, from the Bible once implied that 'Seeing is believing'.
Well creative, imaginative people have the capacity to see in their mind's eye, the change they wish to make in the world. Seeing it, they can believe in it. Believing in it, they can work to make it real.
It's the difference between a follower and a leader.
Being able to envision what you want, and believe in that vision, and just as importantly , being able to communicate that vision effectively to others - that's what makes people want to follow you. Ideas are unkillable, contagious things that can be addictive as hell.
People who don't have imagination are drawn to those who do, because they believe that YOU believe that you can succeed, and want to be drawn up with you when you do.
The crazier and more outlandish your idea, the better. The bigger the lie, the easier it is for others to believe it.
The idea that someone can come from nothing to have everything - that there will be no negative consequences, that nothing will go wrong, the condom will not break, the cops won't ever catch them, that the pimp will always take care of his ho's - well, we all know that for the fantasy it truly is.
It isn't real, it never was, but - and this is the key - what if it
could be?
We have a world full of followers searching desperately for leaders to inspire them - so much so that they accept any passable facsimile that comes along. They listen to promises that are made to be broken all the time.
There are always people who will seek to abuse that need to be led.
Ah, but here's the rub: how are the prostitutes, blindly following their individual pimps, any different from those who voted for second terms for politicians who never keep their promises?
