Such is football and life. TCU's freshman kicker missed two chip shot field goals, kicks he had made all season, at Utah three years ago that cost the Frogs a BCS berth. Utah went on to the Sugar Bowl and smashed Alabama. Originally Posted by WordsmithIndeed. I said this could be a trap game and it was. Oregon pulled away from Arizona and looked impressive doing it.
As the ghost of Mr. Rickles pointed out Utah didn't beat Bama they smashed them, and of course Boise defeated ZerOU in their classic bowl game. So heads up all of these so-called lessor teams can play with anyone. Could they contend in the BCS conferences? Yes i think they could, now that's not to stay they would dominate as they do in their current conferences. Those who claim TCU and Boise would "automatically" have losing records just by being in the SEC for example are vastly overrating the SEC. Yep i said the SEC is overrated. Look at both Alabama and Auburn's schedules.

Bama gets points for playing Penn St, but Duke is one of the worst 1A teams out there, and Ga State is a new program (of course this game is a favor to Bill Curry, former Tide coach) so it's basically a scrimmage for Bama. San Jose isn't much either.
Aubie's non-conference schedule is weaker still.

Arkansas St? Louisiana Monroe? Chattanooga? please. scrimmage games all.
While I'm not a fan of the Big Ten they do have one claim over the SEC, they don't cheat. One legit and valid criticism of the SEC is they cheat. All of them, every one. Name one SEC program that has NOT been on some sort of NCAA probation in the last decade. I will say this about the SEC and how competitive they are - they rat each other out like a pack of thieves. While cheating themselves, they'll drop a dime on any other SEC school. real high moral standards isn't it?
And let's not forget Aubie has a potential controversy right now that could come back to haunt them big-time. While i believe at this point that Chizik did not do anything improper to recruit Fig Newton, the actions of Preacher Newton (probably without his son's knowledge) looks very bad to date, and if so then Fig Newton is ineligible to play anywhere, at any NCAA level. It doesn't matter if Preacher Newton didn't get a dime for Fig's commitment, just by implying "more than a scholarship was needed" is enough to rule him ineligible. By the way, what does this say about so-called religious leaders and their virture? you'd think an ordained minister of all people would be above this sort of thing. Of course Preacher Newton will get his sack of cash if not this year (Fig may need to bolt to the NFL after this year because of his possible ineligibility) but certainly after next season barring a complete melt-down (very unlikely, the kid's got too much talent for that) from the NFL. Fig will eventually be able to buy Preacher a whole new church (and a caddy and a condo in Miami) with his sack of NFL cash.
And last but not least, since we're talking about cheating, i can't resist taking a shot at The Red-headed lisping Pip squeak! Now here's a serial fucking cheater if there ever was one! While there were no reported NCAA violations during his tenures at NC State and Arkansas, there certainly were at Minnesota, ND and South Carolina. And now this pompous asshole calls himself Dr. Lou and pontificates about the virtues of college football? What a hypocrite!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lou_Holtz
by the way, a buddy of mine's cousin played for Holtz at Minnesota in the early 80's, he'd tell you two things about Dr. Lou - yep he was cheating and if he ever had the chance now that the pip squeak doesn't hold his scholarship over his head he'd bust Dr. Lou's teeth out. The previous coach recruited him, not the pip squeak but he played his last two years under him and he claims the Dr. is total asshole to his players.
