Obama's Tax Agreement= Good or Bad?

Big Mike, it's not the taxes that are screwing our children and grandchildren, it's the spending! Until Congress quits spending, the tax rates will be essentially irrelevant. True, but the voting records of Snow, Collins, and even Brown indicate that the democrats can get stuff done. It is these few self appointed swing votes which can hold legislation hostage...not the RNC.

I think this deal was probably as good a deal as Obama was going to get out of them for now. I think its funny how one side blames the other, how can so many people think exactly like their party? Noone is willing to think on their own anymore. How bout this for an idea on taxes, everyone gets the same rate? God that would make to much sense. The poor would pay less and the rich would pay more because x% of a small number is less than x% of a large number but at least the the rich aren't getting punished for being rich and the poor aren't getting gifts because they are poor!

I agree, spending is out of control. But even if we reign it in, do you honesty think the current tax system is going to pay off the deficit?

Hell, if we balance the budget, its still just balanced, we still have a huge debt. We all are going to need to suffer to get this under control.

Well when it has been the tax code for the last 7 years or so, alot of people would consider that a tax increase if it was allowed to expire, but hey, that's just me. The problem isn't keeping the current tax code, it's the SPENDING!!!

I think the democrats just gave us a clear indication of what they think about us. They are willing to consider the tax extension but only if they can get more "sweeteners" added to the bill. I guess they didn't hear about the election last month. Too bad we don't have the capability for recall or at least change our vote within 30 days of an election.

On the other hand, how do you feel about being a hostage? That seems to be the charge agreed to by the democrats. They are all over the tube repeating it. Of course the reality is that they are willing to increase our taxes without the courtesy of a vote by our representatives. That seems so undemocratic and, Nancy Pelosi aside, not what our founding fathers wanted.

Big Mike, no, I don't think the current tax system has any chance in hell of paying off the debt. Our current system is an uncontrollable behemoth that creates a tremendous drag on the economy. It is not designed to raise revenue but to control the population.

Think about it. If you were starting a new country and had to come up with a system of taxation, and someone brought in our current tax code, they would be laughed out of the meeting. Even Einstein said the tax code is incomprehensible, and it was a lot simpler when he said that.
