My guess is provider availability would dry up like the Sahara if money was given up front. Cash in hand would always trump an IOU. That is if they even answer your texts.

I've never had issues with getting deposits for trips like when I did Hawaii last year and when i do Vegas. I usually have arrangements to have my ticket paid for then i have a date in exchange as well as dinner and chit chat off the clock. This could be because I've been around for years and have seen the gents before. I don't think i would ever recommend it with a new provider or someone you've never seen before. Sponsored trips aren't unheard of and happen especially when a provider is only touring an area because she was requested to.
