Well, my take on the whole thing is it's been a big deal about nothing. Most of the troops don't care either way. The powers that be are worried about "unit cohesion" and crap like that when the guys out on patrol are just wanting to get home in one piece without having to worry if they might break some stupid lawyers guidance about Rules of Engagement. If they are openly gay when they're off duty they still have to abide by the appearance while in uniform, that's not going to change.

The military is full of very young people, who often got married for all the wrong reasons (don't have to live in the barracks, get more pay), who are horny as hell, whose spouses are left alone and horny for long periods of time while they are deployed.
