It's physics. Just from an engineering stand point, the human body is designed to function at an ideal weight. That's why the doctors have these charts telling you what your weight should be for your height. The cartilage in your joints is designed to withstand so much impact, the girl in the picture is pushing the limits of it's design. If she were to remain physically active she would do much better seeking low impact sports.
