RIP David Bowie

Anyone who is interested and doesn't already have an extensive awareness of David Bowie's catalogue really owes it to him or herself to listen to The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars. This a great fucking collection and even though Bowie was a mega-freak cum-guzzling weirdo when it was released, and even though I was born the same year it came out so I have zero historical perspective other than what has been regurgitated to me, I find this to be one of the greatest records of all-time. Ever.

This is before Bowie became an 80's/90's retread with a stupid, embarrassing haircut, too.

I would venture to guess that this album contains four of his best known songs (Five Years, Ziggy Stardust, Starman, Suffragette City), and really even beyond that it's a masterpiece when viewed as a single, organic piece, discounting the singular components themselves.

Just listen to the record already. You'll be doing yourself a disservice not to.

I was really shocked, he's great. Labyrinth was one of my favorite movies growing up. Lemmy passing was sad too.

All the Young Dudes. Also outstanding.

Bowie released quite a bit of garbage after 1980 but before he became a celebrity musician he was really excellent.

Surprised he died? Not really.

I always wonder when the media is going to have a hoe-down when a celebrity dies, particularly musicians. I guess they went a little crazy when Kurt Cobain died, maybe Amy Winehouse?

Glenn Frey dropped dead too, wow. I saw the Eagles live a couple of years ago, either 2012 or 2013, don't remember. He seemed fine. Hopefully Don Henley never dies, that would be a legit loss.

I think the next truly meaningful musician death has to be Bob Dylan. That's going to hit me where it hurts.

I wonder if the media vultures will spend more than a day or two on that one.
Dylan would be a big hit, but McCartney an even bigger one.

FYI. Recent explorations of Mars pretty much rules out any spiders. Bowie was lying to everyone. In his defense, I believe he did dabble in some mind altering substances which could account for that. Plus his mom dressed him funny sometimes. Little known fact about David Bowie: invented a really cool knife.
As usual bob, real funny stuff.

I don't see Paul McCartney as being in the same galaxy as Bob Dylan but it wouldn't surprise me if quite a few people do.

For my money George Harrison was the greater loss than John Lennon and Paul McCartney put together.

Bob Dylan, he means almost as much to me as my dog. McCartney I would compare more to a needy, clingy, love-con type hook.

I venture to say that "The Dude" is happy today.

I hated the Eagles too.

Half assed country crap.

I like the Eagles but Glenn Frey was a non-contributor. Really I think I just like Henley.
