Went to
Korruption over the weekend. (West Bottoms: 1717 W. 9th St, KCMO 64101)
Talked to one of the gals that lives there and bar tends there for about an hour. Place was dead due to no burlesque show or live band. Got the history of the building which made the hour spent there well worth my time! She said it is one of those bars you have to work to find, but that she really appreciates those who are willing to do so. She is correct lol!
Burlesque Show Info:
There is a show this Saturday Night Feb 19th. Doors open at 8pm...show at 10pm. She said to get there early as well as buy your tickets on line at
www.kcsob.com ($8 Online
OR $10 At the Door) due to the fact they usually sell out and it's standing room only. Not sure I will make plans to go there this Saturday as my weekends are based more on spur of the moment activities than planned out ones. But I will, at some point, definitely make it back out there to at least see a show or a band as the bar had a great vibe!
Oh...I did not see any street walkers out lol. In fact I didn't even see one car on the streets going there or leaving there.
Coolest Thing About Korruption:
This place is the original Pabst Beer Bar (
pre Blue Ribbon). Due to the fact they couldn't sell beer where they manufactured it they created the Pabst Bar in order to introduce the new beer to the public. When you are entering the bar look down at the outside tile that reads "Pabst". The tile inside the bar was laid piece by piece
all by hand (these are tiny little circle tiles...just amazing),awesome tin ceilings, believe she said original bar, etc. Turned into a speakeasy in prohibition times with a secret poker/gambling room upstairs complete with hat boxes and a secret entrance door with a peep window.
This place has a lot of history!! Super cool in my opinion, but I am one of those nerds that Enjoys hearing about and exploring historic buildings such as this...
