just to clarify a couple of things… any photography contract worth being called a photography contract grants the use of the images to the client. it does not grant copyright. this almost never happens. no photographer worth their salt is going to do that. so...you're not really "paying to get your pictures". what you are paying for is the photography skills on location, the editing skills later, the discretion of the shooter, and a timely delivery.

now…about that photoshopping. i fully agree about the pictures that fbsmlvr was talking about. but part of that is also just her makeup and i think a bit of…work. don't conflate "professional photography" with "photoshopping". not all of us use photoshop that way. my personal policy is that i'm not deleting anything you were born with. a zit is one thing…but if you have a mole on your nose it's staying. lol

and don't worry about watermarks as long as they are unobtrusive. i put my brand in the lower left corner of all of my images because i want people to know i took them. nothing wrong with that.

the bottom line is that you need to find a photographer you're comfortable with and show a good mix of professional images and selfies in your showcase for the best effect.

Being a Provider that uses mostly pro pics I agree it reaches to a higher end of clientele. Guys do want to know you are real so I always post a current selfie or personal pic on all my ads. I change it monthly as well so there is no mistaking I'm truly me in the photos. Guys don't like to be fooled by editing.

As far as photographer in the hobby out of the hobby as long as they take good pics it doesn't really matter. I've dun the studio thing and the hobbiest thing and all photos have turned out being worthy of use!

Professionalism has to do with how you do business as a provider! Pro pics just makes you that much more professional!

I like a combination of the advice given above.
1) Find a photographer your comfortable with.
2) Do some touch up and glamour shot type stuff.
3) And most important...keep it fresh. No one expects a girl to re-do her entire showcase every few months. However, I know of one provider that has her showcase set, but the last two pics in the showcase are always less than 30-days old. This works for all parties.
