Huh?? Doom for fiat money?I find it amusing to watch how these conspiracy mongers work. They glom onto a shred of actual evidence (thinking this will shroud their claims and conclusions with an aura of credibility) and then blow everything way the fuck out of proportion!
A little tinpot wannabe like Qaddafi had no more chance of disturbing the primacy of the world's major currencies than you and a dozen of your buddies would have of pooling your funds and making a successful run at effecting a hostile takeover of Exxon Mobil.
Since it's only five minutes long, and since I thought there might be some comedic value involved (since you posted it!), I took a look at that video. The guy actually said that Qaddafi's gold-backed "African Dinar" might threaten to "topple" the world's fiat currencies. (Yes, seriously. You just can't make this stuff up!) Completely laughable, but I remember when the conspiracy-mongering bullshit blogs lit up with this silliness. Originally Posted by CaptainMidnight

Supposedly, one of the 5 factors was to thwart Qaddafi's plan to roll out a new pan-African currency (the gold dinar) that might undercut the CFA franc, which is guaranteed by the French treasury and serves as a strong link between France and the 14 former colonies in Africa that use it.
Leaving aside the question of how credible Sidney Blumenthal or his sources are, how in the fuck do we leap from a single email mentioning the CFA franc to the conclusion that the US dollar - and indeed ALL "fiat money" - could possibly be threatened by Qaddafi Duck's new, yet-to-be-launched African gold dinar? And how in the fuck do we leap from a suggestion it may have been one of several factors in Sarkozy's mind to the conclusion that it was the "only reason" behind the Libyan intervention? And how in the fuck do we leap from it being an arguable French concern to it being the sole, driving casus belli for the United States and NATO?
Pretty funny stuff, really. But let's give the conspiracy mongers credit. In order to weave a bullshit conspiracy theory that people on COG's cognitive level will find plausible, you need to start with a kernel of real news. The Blumenthal email provided that kernel around which they could embellish and weave all of their other bullshit.
