Some in this country make a mistake, IMO, by imposing our legal philosophy on other societies with a different philosophical foundation upon which they base their laws. Our legal philosophy is based on Christian ethics, which is why our "Founding Fathers" crafted "In God We Trust" in our founding documents, which has been carried forward. Only "culturally correct" bullshit has sought a change.
