What great music? Spoon maybe? Shearwater? The music scene in Austin sucks. That's why there's never been an artist from Austin that's broken out into major success. For a while I thought Kat Edmundson might have a shot, but her management has her snapping her fingers when she sings and doing all kinds of "weird" things that's left her in the dust. If you don't follow the groups and individuals who come to the Austin360 Amphitheater, the ACL festival, Austin City Limits, and the Frank Erwin Center on occasion, you don't follow the Austin music scene. Some of my favorite local artists are Jimmy Lafave, Ginger Leigh, Patrice Pike, Bob Schneider, Guy Forsyth, Malford Milligan, Shelley King, and WC Clark. Pinetop Perkins was an Austin icon before his recent death. The only other city in the U.S. I know of that has a music scene equal to Austin is Nashville.
