...in that order.
Howdy, Folks!
Since we're playing "what if," I'll throw in my 2¢.
Firstly, I don't see it happening any time soon in Texas.
As stated in my title, I figure we'll see decriminalization in that order.
Alcohol consumption has already been decriminalized in Texas.
Social gambling has become "acceptable" again in the mainstream, and I'm *sure* there's state gub'mint types that would LOVE to see some tax revenue from the money that's changing hands in private house parties.
Easiest way to do that is to decriminalize gambling, and have legalized - and taxable - casinos.
That will probably come next.
Far down the list, prostitution may get decriminalized.
As Kosher pointed out earlier, though - there will always be a market for activities which will not take place in a government sanctioned brothel that will never go away.
If for no other reason - the rules for using a state approved brothel/state approved sex workers might be so stringent and red-tape infested, folks would simply hobby as they have always done because it's just simpler.
Speaking of simple:
I'd gladly pay a premium if I didn't have to spend half of my Saturday looking for a decent lay on BP/Eccie. Drop by the brothel, have a drink, and negotiate a session all within the hour.

Purchasing liquor in Texas is relatively simple(although I love how in New Mexico you can buy alcohol in grocery stores and pharmacies!).
It's gotta be this simple for folks to partake in it, otherwise, there's no business - and therefor no profits and tax revenues - so there's really no need to even go about decriminalizing it in the first place.

Pricing - would it go up, or down?
Government regulation tends to hamper free enterprise, and that is one thing about The Hobby in its current form that fascinates me - it is an amazing example of capitalism in action.
[Truth be told - Eccie is actually one hell of a economics class. It is very much worthy of study.]
IF prostitution were legalized in Texas, I predict that initially, there would be an increase in pricing as folks attempt to start up "legitimate" businesses.
After a while, there would be a glut of offerings on the market with a flood of employees from women(not to exclude the guys, but let's face it - male providers are kinda rare) who think because they were born with a vagina they have a built in business in between their legs. Prices will drop.
Truth be told - it takes a very special person to be a provider, and be able to do the work a provider does. The amateur women that think they could to it - won't. They will be unreliable, their services will be sub-par, and before you know it - they'll be doing something else.
Because of the poor quality service and glut of workers on the market for a time, the prices will go down.
Then...
The numbers of providers will shrink as those that can't do the work get out of the biz, and prices will go up as demand once again exceeds supply.
Pricing will then probably level out, much like it has in Nevada.
Honestly, I think we'll see legalized gambling - and maybe even medical marijuana - before we see legalized prostitution in Texas.
Then again - I could be wrong...
Happy Hobbying!
