My dad joined the army when he was 17. Lied about his age and ended up storming the beaches of Normandy. The army puts out books about their history. One day my mom found it (after he passed) and he was in it. They called him "Snake"
because he could move like one. He saved others. He helped others. He was also in Korea and Vietnam.

He never spoke about it.

my great grand mother had 3 sons in the war. I think 2 of them were pilots, not sure which service. both got shot down. one in the Pacific and not sure about the other one. 3rd one was in Army and took part in the D-Day landing. He was discharged from Army during early summer and joined Merchant Marines; died fall of 1945, allegedly of heart attack.


interesting how one makes it thru the fighting only to have life throw you a curve.
