Quote TM - Wow those are some incredible profit margins. Is that what you are talking about when you talk about the Plantation state? Not paying the people who are doing the actual work and the "owner" makes all the money? Oh that's right, they, ( the players) get a free education. Similar to the Plantations in the South. The owners provided free living quarters and meals
You are right TM. What began more than 100 years ago as college spirit enhancement, is now a multi-billion dollar entertainment enterprise. On the backs of kids recruited at 17-18 years of age to trade athletic talent for scholarship, education, room and board, and a stipend. It is professional football - but only a few make it the pros, and some in coaching. Some do not get a reasonable education of value. One can lose a scholarship with an injury.
The system is geared to make money for the schools, and on the backs of the athletes.
Are they Slaves - not technically - "A well paid slave is nonetheless a slave" Curt Flood.
Should athletes be paid more by colleges - probably - but good luck with the NCAA and college Presidents.
Please dispense with the "Plantation politics" - I am fond of using - this is non-partisan issue and not relevant - IMHO./
