I don't know how KCMO does it, but I've always been able to just pay an extra amount (usually about double) to get the ticket deferred. So the ticket just gets dismissed after a few months. I would call someone about that, before getting a lawyer. Have a feeling it might be cheaper in the long run.

KCMO went through some changes several years ago. You can still get tickets changed to a nonmoving ticket, provided you have not had a previous ticket within the last year. If you have, get a lawyer to go down and cry and beg for you on the condition of paying more money with no new tickets for the following year.
