Astros alternatives

It's okay. Ever since Bud Selig tried to contract the Minnesota Twins when he was commissioner, to increase the market share for the Brewers, and he happened to own part of the team, the reason for mlb is clear. Fans keep on paying, and that is good.

You don't know about the crooked Bud Selig and the Milwaukee Brewers ? Read up on that.

Last night's game was a train wreck. But one thing is clear....get rid of James the relief pitcher number 39 as quickly as possible.....he is also a total train wreck.

What exactly is the reason for MLB?

Oh My Gawd. Look at this couch coach post! :-) because you try to win a game with the pen before you do that. Especially with a game left in the series that u can go to if need be. Teams can not rely souly on starters. U use them up and opposing batters will figure them out especially in a 7 game win or die series. There is a reason teams have several different types of pitchers in the pen. Kinda what the pen is for.

It was interesting to hear John Smoltz talk about why starters sometimes give up early runs. They are in it for the long haul. They are trying to set up batters for later innings and they don't want to show everything they've got early on. Sometimes that strategy bites them in the ass with a run or two but by the time that happens they've usually accomplished their goal and start getting outs consistently. Verlander and Cole have done just that. They've given up early runs and then been pretty much lights out through the middle innings. The Nats just have confidence and good bats right now so they are able to jump on anything that isn't a perfect pitch.
