a big mistake i see people make all the time is they project their sense of values and beliefs onto other people, expecting them to behave as you yourself would. this is why george w bush was elected. this is why barrack obama was elected, and this is why trump was elected. people write onto others, who seemingly project themselves as "understanding" of your situation, expecting them to act as they themselves would act.

May seem apologetic, but it's not. I should've known better, but like you said, i projected my sense of better values onto her. Never again.

Side note...this did happen to me before with another provider, except that one made good on her promise.

I’ve always had the motto “never loan money you can’t afford to lose”. The same goes with a situation like this. If you want to “give” her money in hopes that she will later “give” you something... that’s fine. But as soon as she walked out the door, the chances of you getting yours faded away. I’m sure she had no intention of screwing you (perfect pun-but not intended), but like most service business, re-do’s, prepays, freebies, and warranty work do NOT take priority over the next paying job-even if we think they should. I agree that you were quite the gentlemen by letting her leave without doing her job but your mistake was “expecting” anything. “Hoping” for her to do the right thing -sure.
