Question for you wildcatters - if you cap a fracking well, does the field deteriorate over time in terms of how much oil & gas you can recover later on when you uncap it and resume production?

if you shut in a well (not cap, capping is what you do when you abandon the well), you just don't run the pumps, but all equipment, like people, deteriorate with time, and idle people and equipment can deteriorate faster
but you have to be wary of your lease as you can lose the lease if you don't produce in paying quantities within the terms of each individual lease
a field doesn't deteriorate without production but it can be drained by production. all formations have a decline curve, with flush production levels declining over time
and wells are all different even in the same formation, some in much sweeter spots than others
