Well for pasta, Lydia's in the Freighthouse district by Union Station is nice. It is centrally located between downtown and the Plaza. Originally Posted by TailHooked

Here are three suggestions that have not been named.

Rye...they have two locations one on the Plaza and one in Leawood.

Le Fou Frog...outstanding French restaurant in the Rivermarket.

Farina...Italian scratch place by local James Beard award winning chef.

Ok, there's Italian mentions, so:

Lydia's, Crossroads
Garazzo's, Columbus Park
Anthony's, Downtown North Loop
Cascones, KC North, North Oak
Johnny Cascones, OP, Metcalf
Bravo, Zona Rosa
Luigi's, Liberty
V's, Independence-west
Cafe Verona, Independence Square
Your right Q39 is a block north of 87th. That wouldn't be College though. College is basically 111th street and its south of I435, not farther north of 87th.
Don't do Q39...its just a BBQ restaurant...highly overrated...good..but really? BBQ is supposed to be a joint.

Meat and potatoes Antons on Main...they sell their steaks by the ounce...should tell you something.

Another fav is Extra Virgin..close by...somewhat eclectic menu...realy cool place. Outdoor dining availible. Check it out.

Yes the old Haywoods is the 2nd Q39.
It caters to the Corporate Woods lunch crowd and the OP dinner crowd (yes suits).
The Q39 at 1000 W 39th St, Kansas City, MO 64111, is a excellent hole in the wall.
I've been hitting his menu for over a decade (yes before the store fronts). He used to be the chef at Hilton near Airport. He has had numourous competitive bbq wins and finally opened the site on 39th.
For fine dining:

J ALexander's - Overland Park

J Gilbert's Wood Fired Steaks and Seafood - Overland Park
In a pinch, any Taco Bell would satisfy hunger needs.

Note: If you partake, suggest informing any clients who typically enjoy back door bottom feeding .

Falcon is correct.

Gilbert's, Bristol Seafood, Houlihan's, Chequers Seafood, Steak & Devoe are now (late fall 2019) owned by a Houston outfit "Landry's" that has McCormick & Schmidts and a few other names.

801 chophouse, Q39 (bbq), Jackstack (bbq), Joe's BBQ, *Eddie V's Prime Seafood and Steaks, or The Capital Grill.
If you want steak, and you want someone to spend some cash... Sullivan's is tops. Protein overload... Baked potatoes and asparagus... GREAT!!!
You guys are AMAZING!! Thank you for all the wonderful restaurants. Now I have no idea how I am going to pick just one! Wish I could go to all of them while I am in town, but ha ha ha. I guess if anything I can put the names in a hat and see what gets picked. lol
Again thank you for helping this TX chic out!!
