Regarding my own travel anxiety:
Several years ago, (back in 2007 actually) I was living in Austen Tx. Twice a week I took a bus ride to volunteer at a a non-profit located in a lower-end part of town along East 12th Street. My stop back then was right across from Al's Barbeque (anyone know it?) One day my bus driver did not remember to make my stop, or even announce it. Now I am visually impaired, so that is a serious thing for me.
When I realized that I'd missed my stop, I asked the driver to let me out at the next stop and I'd take the next bus going the other way. He wouldn't let me off the bus! We argued about it and he kept trying to convince me that it was too hot, no bench or shade and a long wait. . . etc . I got seriously pissed-off. Then a fellow passenger stood up by the driver and also tried to convince me not to get off at that stop. At that point, it occurred tome that neither one of them would want to get off the bus right there. Another factor was that I carried a computer shoulder bag and was dressed a bit like Woody Harrison in :"White Men Can't Jump", shor4ts T-shirt, trainers with white socks . . all of it. And sat down again.
So I stayed on the bus to the end of the line and rode it back to my destination, having reconciled with the driver and the other guy.
