Security clearances are "live" now. If you engage in questionable activities and it is detected you will loose your clearance. Being a member or showing support of extremist groups has always been prohibited. Then there is the Hatch act.

And who defines “questionable activity”. Etremist is now defined as anyone who doesn’t support democratic policy, unity as half the country ditching their morality and bowing to socialism, and terrorist as anyone who didn’t vote for Biden.
