If they get to the comedians we're really fucked.Carlin, Pryor, old Eddie Murphy, and a bunch of other classics are what got me into Comedy, When I was a teen and Chapelle Show was doing its first run on CC.. oh man the gems. I was really happy Louis CK emerged from the ashes of his incident. But now he's just such a preachy dicky YOU YOUNG FOLKS ARE IDIOTS MURRR I can't really laugh at a lot of his material anymore.
Thankfully we still have guys like Dave Chapelle and Bill Burr keeping me laughing in the absence of Pryor, Carlin and Hicks. Funny should always get pass, nothing off limits.
Chappelle's black white supremacist sketch is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. I'm not so sure that Comedy Central would allow that if it was released today.
I believe there will always be an audience for comedians. I'm more worried about the venues. How long before clubs and theaters get too woke and refuse to host comedians who discuss "sensitive" topics? It hits the comedian in the wallet and prevents us from seeing their "offensive" act. I really don't know if I can handle Chapelle anymore. I was a super big fan of his but the whole white guilt hes pounding in as much as he can in the last couple specials are really turning me off. Have had way too many experiences being race carded by people I just met or barely know expecting me to chauffeur them around or lend them more money than I'd lend even my closest of friends saying I Must be racist cause I won't drive from Wilson out to Buffalo to give them a ride to a Casino or just lend them a few hundo that I don't have to begin with till pay day that they -promise- they'll pay back when they can't even spell my name. Carlin was great at ranting about political stuff without really harping on one specific group too much or getting too deep into one area, He was just sick and tired/fed up with everything and everyone
Dave made a career out of ragging on gays, his last few specials hes going after the trannies and talking about "The alphabet people" and theres just something really hypocritical and lame about a person who shits on other minority groups or sections of society that have a tough run of things while still talking about the victimization of their peoples. So how does that work? a protected class can hurl shit at a protected class and the endured repression cancels out the other groups? Like multiplying two negative numbers?
I mean Eddie Murphy did a great job back in the day with RAW and Delirious of ragging on all the ethnicities and sexualities without piling the shit too hard on one specific group. He'd get crucified for that shit in this day and age. But he was still able to be hilarious and talk about issues across different groups (white/black/asian/italian/gay/straight) without sprinkling in some victimization.
I still look back and think about a lot of classic Dave. Like "Someone get Ja on the phone, I can't make sense if this, somebody please tell me what jarule thinks"
that one made a big comeback in my mind with that Robinhood stock/crypto platform scandal. Mainly because JaRule was pumping Robinhood on twitter and telling everyone to sign up with his referral link (so he can profit) then within 20 hours talking about how horrible robinhood is and how they should be in deep shit for locking accounts and wigging out. It was just super clear he'd JUST heard about crypto/online stock trading that week shit popped off with the GME Stock and he was trying to get idiots to follow him and buy in and then he just got stomped in the nuts along with everyone else and had a little twitter pissyfit.
It was like a Greek Tragedy in 4 tweets or something. Fuckin' Jarule.
I'll quit being irritated by media/comedy/art/music/politics when things become less one sided. Right now its like if you're white or people -think- you're white because they can't tell you're a mixie you're not allowed to say boo about anybody but you're supposed to bite your lip and bow your head while people say whatever stereotypical bullshit or make whatever "playful" jabs they want.
The wokeness is going to eat itself. I'll always take people on a person by person basis. But I can't help but feel like the media and social media are playing a really big part based on a highly vocal minority of users /tweeters to make society as a whole feel like things are a lot more racially fucked and tense than they are out in the world.
People want to bitch about the possibility of minimum wage raising but minimum wage isn't even minimum wage. That shit was established to be a living wage that someone could afford to take care of their family and have a roof over their head with. It doesn't actually work that way anymore. I can't find much in the news/media/interacting with people that doesn't support the idea that certain groups of people would rather have us bickering with and fighting each other based on skin color and religion.
That way we're too busy dealing with stupid shit while people with all the money do everything they can and lobby/bribe everything they can influence to avoid paying taxes or doing their part while paying their workers as little as possible and preventing any kind of unionization (looking at you amazon who doesn't pay their fair share of taxes)
It was great early on in covid to hear about the large cruise ships (Cruise ships are such a horrible wasteful insanely huge scale pollutant, the Germans in charge of a lot of them got around the more recent air pollution reduction requirements by sneakily routing the smog directly into the water under the ship) But because a lot of those companies that run /own those cruiseships choose to base their business HQ out of the US or lots of other countries so they can avoid taxes, a lot of countries (and states) were like "nah fuck you, you quarantine them on your floating city, you don't pay taxes here we don't want to deal with your sick people or bullshit"
Hell, lots of places in Europe won't even let the cruiseships near the city limits for all the stink/smog/pollution they leave behind.
I will always be an equal opportunity pussy hound. Girls can be valued/appraisedbased on the cuteness, their attitude, their sense of humor and their interests, cleanliness/quality/flavor of the ol' snatchola.
If standup comedy basically keeps going in the direction it is we're going to have comedians that can only make fun of straight white people and politicians, and that's going to get pretty old/stale.
God I wish "The Boondocks" was still on the air. That show was fucking amazing at telling things the way they are and adding just enough humor while still making great commentary on political situations of the era and race relations.
God i want shit to go back to normal so I can stop spending so much time on reddit/internet communities where there's such a focus on this woke bullshit and the whole "If you wouldn't date a trans girl you're homophobic" nonsense. I miss the good ol days of getting too drunk in Allentown with some random hipster girl, smoking a joint in the car and getting a clumsy blowjibber.
