I think that's the key right there. If you are "bargain hunting" on listcrawler or StG and you wind up in some low rent motel, it doesn't really matter what part of the city you're in - you're more likely to have problems; and, if you're booked with a reputable provider who is staying at nice hotel, it also doesn't matter what part of the city you're in - you're more likely to have problem free experience.
