Not being that computer literate, how does a 'proxy' work? Sounds like something I could use.

So if a Web site is blocked, you instead go to the proxy server (which is not blocked) and tell that computer to send it to you. It is kind of like when your mom wouldn't let you go to the comic book store, so you gave the money to your best friend and he went for you.
Outside of computers, proxies are used for many things. When you can't make it to a meeting (like a shareholders meeting) you can designate someone as your proxy to vote for you. You can even get
married by proxy, for example when one spouse is away in the military.
