They simply are trying to twist the word destroy which literally means "to defeat someone utterly" into something it is not

Leftists are destroying our country and need defeated. They need defeated in such an utter and humiliating way that they finally get it through their heads that America rejects their brand of extremism. The future of our country is at stake.
