Why should Walmart "eat the tariffs"?

Well, since you lefties aren't fans of corporate welfare, this should be something you support, biting the ass of the big corporations to save cash for the poor rural people in flyover country, you actually care shit about.

Really being hyporcritical anymore. Originally Posted by Devo

Walmart isn't going to feel the pinch. We are. Why is that so hard for MAGA to understand or admit? trump is either lying about what tariffs do or he himself doesn't understand what they do.
... As I stated - Walmarts can "DO the Right thing" and eat the tariffs.
If not, their products will sit. ... People will shop elsewhere.

That's why Walmarts should eat the tariffs.

This is in effect anything but good for corporations much less the country as a whole.

Trade conflicts are not good for business in general. Walmart should advertise the amount of every tariff on every product that they sell. Amazon, Target, and every other retailer should do the same.
... Hmmmm. ... Interesting concept... Adverts for the "tariff cost"...
Maybe the White House should show the American people the profits $$$
made by those companys you mention - and the government subsidy
money - payed by tax payers - also given to the companys.

Let's let the Walmarts and Target shoppers know the truth.
Target can surely use some more bad press...

Sure, Salty.

If that's something you think we should be spending money on...

What if Walmart told their Chinese supplier that they weren't going to pay the higher price due to tariffs? What would the supplier do with all this merchandise? Do you think they could find someone else to buy it at the higher price or would they negotiate a deal and end up "paying" some or all of the tariff cost?

Short story... it's complicated

Longer story... it's because of the contract law, what was agreed to and the relevant laws of the jurisdiction. Could be some contractual breaches and liquidated damages that would be far in excess of what the cost of just paying the tariffs would be.

WM confirms that tariff-related prices increases are coming, and that they're still committed to low prices
