Any ideas on the root cause of mental health problems?

I think this answer is dependent on how you define a “mental health” problem.
If that definition includes depression then the answer is fairly obvious.

Trump’s right wing agenda destroying democracy and the rise of totalitarianism in the United States.

My guess would be that extreme liberals are swinging between episodes of psychotic rage and clinical depression.

Since it's self-reported, it's very possible a bunch of lying to oneself played into the results.

Also... was this before or after the election?
... The actual root cause of mental health problems??

Not being able to see things straight is a big part of it.

Seeing "totalitarianism" in one direction, but then NOT seeing it
as - "takling away yer guns" ... "No more gas vehicles" ..
"No more fossil fuels" and, of course, "No more gas stoves"...
Which is totalitarianism" in the other direction.

... Seeing thigs "one-way" may be a mental condition.
But I won't comment on anybody's health.

“Percentage of extreme liberals under 30 years of age who have been diagnosed with a mental health problem: 56%

Percentage of extreme conservatives: 10%” Originally Posted by Green_Mountain

Liberals are always vying with each other over who is the biggest "victim". So it makes sense that many of them would lie and say they are mental misfits in order to elicit our sympathy and plead for more public money to help them cope with life.

Thanks for pointing out a potential bias in the data.
“Over 56% of young white liberal women (ages 18–29) have been diagnosed with a mental health condition, per Pew.”
