Minnesota is the new California: the bastion of no law and disorder by its Tampon Tim Loving residents

I have never had an issue with producing my government issued ID on the request of any police officer. It has long been stablished that requesting an ID is a legal order that must be complied with.

It is not unlawful to temporarily detain someone for an ID check. There does not need to be a probable cause reason. An ID check may legally be done during any interaction with an LEO.

You do not have to provide identification unless you are being detained by the officer. Being detained by the authorities comes with certain legal requirements. The primary being reasonable suspicion or probable cause.

When Can an Officer Legally Ask You for ID?

A consensual encounter is a voluntary interaction between a citizen and a police officer where the person reasonably believes they are free to leave at any time. In this scenario, an officer can approach you and ask questions, including a request to see your identification. During a consensual encounter, you are not legally obligated to provide your ID, and you have the right to politely refuse the officer’s request.

The core of a consensual encounter is your freedom to terminate it. If an officer does not have a legal basis to detain you, you can walk away. You can also verbally confirm the nature of the encounter by asking, “Am I free to go?” If the officer says yes, the interaction remains consensual, and you can leave without providing any information. The moment an officer’s actions would make a reasonable person feel they cannot leave, the encounter becomes a detention.

There's the little thing called reasonable suspicion..

Minnesota does not have a 'stop and search' law.

When I have traveled abroad, I wore a document holder around me neck with my ID papers in it whenever I went out on the street. In the 1980s we lived in Athens Greece for my work . . .and that was a normal thing to do.

N ow-a-days, we live in Texas and whenever going out of the house, my state issued ID (I do not drive) is in my wallet.

This ID thing in Minnesota is a red herring, much like the voter ID cujrfuffel we go through every election cycle.

While the current upheaval we see on TV every day captures our attention, it does not present the whole of Minnesota as a state or the bulk of its people.. The Land zOf Ten Thousand Lakes is a wonderful place with wonderful people and great fishing, both summer snd winter.

We cannot dismiss Minnesota just because a newly intrtoducd segment of its population does not have a cultural heritage that values Ice Fishing.

A newly introduced segment of its population?

There is ALWAYS a newly introduced segment of the population.

Some of you fine Americans can’t seem to remember that.

In typical trump fashion, this went from deporting all the illegal criminals in the country to starting fires in all the democratic bastions so they can pretend to be fire fighters.

It is true that if Trump goons manage to deport all non white immigrants, it will include a few criminals in the sweep. Bonus for gunning down a liberal lesbian protestor.
